Today marks day 1 of principle photography for my new film Deranged. This is a feature length film, (with a 70-90 minute running time,) that I am producing in one semester. Deranged is a psychological thriller that is staged around a murder on a university campus. We follow two main characters. The first main character, Jesse, is a student suffering from insomnia, and is a close friend of the victim’s. The second character, Jack, is a detective investigating the case.
With a supporting cast of 12 characters, and about 29 different locations, this is quite the undertaking. However I am determined to get it done, and done in time. I’ll be leaving Omaha after I graduate on May 7th, so I’d like to have a screening here at the University before then. Our shooting schedule starts today, and is planned to be complete March 19. March 19 through April 28 will be dedicated to post-prodiction. For Deranged, this involves editing and the musical score.
I feel like this is gonna be a really great learning experience du to the fact that, for all intents and purposes, I have a release date. The film has to be done before graduation, since it is technically a class assignment. This inclusion of a timeline, has fortunately forced me to organize and schedule the production to a much finer detail that I probably normally would. It should be quite the experience. Be sure to check back in from time to time as I’ll be sure to be blogging constantly through the production. You can also follow me on twitter for updates on the blog.
As many of you know, I am also the author of the online graphic novel Spaghetti Strap Western. Due to the fact that we have entered principle photography, and that I am the only crew member on this project, you can imagine that my resources are going to be spent for the next month. As a result SSW will have to be on a temporary break until I enter post-production and things calm down a bit. I don’t wanna sacrifice page quality, so this is the best solution in the long run. Spaghetti Strap Western will return March 19 with page 91.
